Book Review: Listening Spirituality

Listening Spirituality
Vol 1: Personal Spiritual Practices Among Friends
By Patricia Loring
Openings Press, 1997
ISBN 0-9657599-0-3

This is a really wonderful book for someone who may want to understand Quaker practice more deeply or for a first time attender who wants to know why everyone’s so quiet and what they’re “doing.”

The introduction gives a great oversight of Quaker silent worship and some of its value to individual practitioners. Later chapters break down different prayer & meditation techniques from the Quaker tradition and other traditions such as Buddhism.

While this book is currently out of print, you may be able to find it as part of the collection of a local Quaker meeting or on Amazon or Powell’s. While tailored to Quaker's, its worth a read for anyone looking for techniques to deepen their practice regardless of faith tradition.

Hi Pax: "Listening Spirituality" is very much in print. There are plenty of copies here in the FGC Bookstore at www.quakerbooks.org. (see what happens when you rely on Amazon??, grin!)

I just stumbled onto your site. Can't wait to look around, the posts I've seen look interesting. I just had to correct the out-of-print notice right off. In Friendship, Martin

Thanks Martin. I appreciate the correction. Providing hopefully useful information to people is what it is all about. I hope to see other comments from you and others. Thanks again.
